I've been having email issues the last month with our email server rejecting emails. We have all the latest service packs for both exchange and NT 4. What happens is users sending email, are receiving either warning messages that the email is delayed (interoffice email taking up to 2 hours to process) or the email never gets there.

The only error message I can dertime is: Could not connect: got unknown RCPT to response 554; recipient address rejected. I spoke with our provider and they are showing it is our mail server rejecting the email.

I have no clue where to start looking for this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

try telnetting to your server internally then externally. Try sending emails to it from various sources. Turn on Message archiving and SMTP event. Check your logs. Check to see if your IMC (internet mail connector is functioning right) if not, you may have to delete the IMC and start it fresh.

I have Message archiving and tracking on and found no errors. I have also tryied running MTAcheck to no avail. I have found no system errors or logs in Even viewer.

What signs point to that would cause the IMC to malfunction?

Turn everything in the IMC diagnostic logging to maximum and post back anything the looks a miss.

Cheers,
Iain

I turned on everything to Maximum in IMC diagnostic. I have checked the logs and can't find anything out of the ordinary. The users are now having problems with Receiving email, where the email keeps looping, receiving the same three emails.

An error message I found was this in outlook : 0x800CCC0F Connection to the server was interrupted. This is just one of the many things occurring.

What could be causing a general slow down to the email queues and processing?
