Exchange Server Group missing from AD

Last night we ungrade our domain controller/dns/AD server to a new machine. We have, on another machine, Exchange Server 2000 previously installed. This morning when it came to looking at the AD closer we noticed all references to the Exchange Groups in the AD both on the AD server and the Exchange server have gone. Currently we are trying to repair the installation (as I don't particularly want to do a reinstall). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get these groups back into the AD?

Any help or ideas are welcome.

Ensure that the Exchange Server is part of AD by stopping all Exchange services, leaving domain and rejoining. You may need to bin the machine account.

Then if that doesn't cure the trouble, reinstall the ADC that comes with Exchange SP3.
