Hello,

It seems to be random and a little rare but occasionally Outlook 2003 asks users for a Username & Password. Whatever is typed in doesn't seem to work and the only to way around it is to restart the computer.

We're running Exchange Server 2003 and our users are using Outlook 2003 with Offline Cache enabled.

If you anyone has some suggestions or ideas on what could be causing this problem I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,

That will also happen if the user's account somehow got locked out or their password expires.

It also happens when you connect to an exchange server after changing the password since the change may not have replicated around yet.

We seem to sometimes get this error with laptop users who are connecting via wireless.

If the wireless signal drops out, then it seems not to 'trust' the logged on user without revalidating the username and password..

It happens fairly infrequently though so I have never really looked into the issue..

Cheers.

Blakey,

Yes our users are on wireless and I suspect it happens after a dropout.

Just our of interest how offen do your wireless users dropout?

Hi Furtech,

I could not give you a definitive answer of how often they drop out.

Up until two weeks ago, I would say that it happened rather infrequently, perhaps once a week/fortnight.
Some users would never have any problems, others would always have problems, and I believe this is more of a hardware/vendor compatability issue.

In the last two weeks though I have been having some *issues* with wireless, which I suspect has to do with the rollout of our new 'iMate JAMin' mobile/PDA devices. I have not had sufficient time to work through the process completely so have actually disabled wireless on a host of laptops and require them to plug in with the infamous 'blue cable' :)

Have briefly read some articles regarding incompatabilities with Windows Mobile 5 devices, active sync 4 (we run 4.2) and some chipsets/brands of wireless cards.

Suppose my ramble is not that informative, but anyways..

Cheers!
