Hi!
I've installed IP routing on my windows 2000 server so that clients can access the internet. Now I want to install Exchange Server on the same machine. During the installation Exchange server says that it needs active directory to be installed. But íf I install active directory my server will be a domain controller and domain controllers don't support dns forwarning do they? Have you got any ideas how i can manage to run ip routing and Exchange server?

HI.

Domain Controllers support DNS proxy/forward.

After installing DNS, delete the root zone from the DNS management console if present (it is shown as a period).

Before installing AD and Exchange, I suggest that you ask a networking expert to check your network design.
Seems to me that you are not paying enough attention to security and other networking issues.
Why are you using your server as an ip router? What's the goal here?
Do you have a firewall?

Bye

You can setup a DC to act as a DNS forwarder BUT, it is a HUGE security risk to do that. By using a DC you could expose your entire network to a hacker.

You should look into NAT for internet access. It's part of RRAS. Also look at ip packet filtering along with a firewall or fw software for "some" security.
