We're having problems receiving an email from an email account at a govt site.
We have an Exchange 2000 server, SP 3, all security patches and hot fixes.
This issue started last week when we had made some security changes to our Exchange 2000 server. However, the security changes we made are standard procedure in an Exchange 2000/ Microsft environment.
What I know about the email account unable to send to us:
-a reverse DNS lookup cannot be preformed on it, they have this one email set up on purpose. We do not have "check reverse DNS lookup..." checked off on our server.
Our Mail server has several restrictions such as
no external relaying, some connection control.
The govt. site tech dept. told me we have a problem with our server. However, we can receive all external email except from that address.
Being a green Exchange Administrator, I have two questions:
Is there something I can do on my server to resolve this without compromising our security?
IF changes are made on the "Perform reverse DNS lookup on incoming messages" is changed, can the changes be made 'active' by stopping and starting the default SMTP virtual server? Or would I have to reboot the exchange server?
Thank you in advance for your help. If you need any more info, please post and I'll post more information.
