Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could please help with the following.

We have 2 exchange servers, one in a parent, and one in a child domain connected by site-to-site VPN over a Wan link. (server1.domain.local and server2.child.domain.local). They both however share a mail domain (domain.com).

We have currently started to use an external company for SPAM filtering and as a result need to send all our outbound mail through them. They asked us to just use Smarthosts on both Exchange servers to point to them. However, it seems that when we do this internal mail is also forwarded to the Smarthost (which makes sense), and therefor fails.

Does anyone know how we can setup routing/connectors between the 2 servers so that internal mail will just be directly delivered to the infostore containing that user but still allow external mail to go to the Smarthost?

I inherited this server so I am not 100% sure how it was originally setup.

Many thanks,

Matt

We use an external vendor for this also, but we changed our MX records and did not use smarthosts.

Sorry.

Thanks but we are using the external service for Span in bound, and disclaimers outbound. So whne a user from server A trys to send a mail to a user in server b, the mail is sent to the smarthost and then si re-injects it back to originating server and this creates an endless loop. We have removed the Smarthost settings and mail flows fine but we are now not using the external service for outbound mail.

Is what we need to do the following?:

(very high level overview here) setup routing groups for each site, and then a SMTP connector to the internet in each site for external mail?

Cheers,

Matt
