I recently had a user delete a public folder that was very valuable but unfortunately because of various wrong exchange setting my only way to restore it is to use NT backup tapes, restore to a test environment on a separate box in a test domain.

Once the restore process to the test environment was finished I could not start the exchange services (except directory service) or exchange admin to get at the public folders. I'm getting 2 error thus far. error 1011 and error OXFB5.

Does anyone know what i can do to fix this issue?

I aslo get an DS_E_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_RIGHTS when i try to run isinteg -patch

Ok, your test domain has to be IDENTICAL to the original setup so your restored DB has to be on MYORIGINALSERVERNAME which is a member of the ORIGINALDOMAIN.

Can you tell me what the errors are in the event log?

thanks,
Iain

I think the problem is happening because the SAM file and SID are different.
All the errors are related to permissions. The domain I'm using is an NT 4.0 domain with the same domain name just not connect to the original domain and the test exchange box is also the same name as the live box.

Yup, that would explain it - the original SAM database needs to be available.

Right, connect a test BDC to your domain, then remove it and promote it to the PDC then add your new restore server to the new domain. That should then get you up and running.

Good luck,
iain
