wow...i cant find this anywhere.

I need to create an alias for and exchange mailbox. for instance, jdoe@mycompany.com is an actual email address and a user account in the domain. consider that joe doe is the HR manager, and i want mail sent to careers@mycompany.com to be delivered to jdoe@mycompany.com.

why is this eluding me? should this be simple?

thanks in advance!

This is fairly simple to do :

1) if it should be delivered to just 1 mailbox, create a new SMTP address for this user. As of then, this user is able to receive mail from this address.

2) another way is to create a new user and mailbox for this alias address, and specify a forward to another user.

3) third option (if it should be delivered to different mailboxes) is to create a distribution list with this email-address, and all members of this group will receive this mail.

I hope this clarifies,

Regards,

Peter

ahh. got it. my only question is this...will this be an issue if i use a smtp relay (non-exchange) in front of the exchange box?
thanks,

Bryant

Bryant,

Surely no problem at all.

This mail relay is normally only checking whatever is behind the @ in your domain name.

So, mail gets through the mail relay and will be received by the Exchange server which will transfer it according the configured rules.

Good luck,

Peter
