Exchange Intrasite Dialup connector?

Is it possible to link a machine into an exchange site over a dialup connection?

if so, can the dial-up be scheduled so that it is dialled up say, twice a day, andf the mail and data replicated across servers? Lotus notes has this capability..

YES this can be done in Exchange

Exchange servers within a site talk to each other constantly via RPC. I don't know if it would be technically feasible, but it would be a nightmare.
