Exchange Email Forward problems

Can anyone help?
I'm trying to forward ALL email to another mailserver from Exchange to our 'SMTP/Mailscanning' server. However, all mail from users within the domain is being delivered locally and not hitting the smtp server. I have configured an SMTP connector and set it to handle all email, but it doesnt seem to work!! Please help me??!!

I belive exchange will only use the SMTP connector for external mail. Internal mail is just that.
