When I first installed Exchange, I had all of my groups and users in the Pre-Installed "Users" Container object. I decided to move them to OUs afterward. When I moved the Exchange Domain Servers group, I got this error message in the event logs...

Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of group 'cn=Exchange Domain Servers,cn=Users,dc=monintl,dc=com'. Error code '80072030'.

This is obviously because the System Attendant is looking for the group in the Users container, so I just moved that group back to the Users container and all was well. How can I move this group to the OU that I want without getting this message? Do I have to re-install Exchange? Its not causing any problems (that I'm aware of), but I would like to move all of my groups to a specific OU for organizational purposes.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

You must leave Exchange Domain Servers and Exchange Enterprise Servers group in the Users container. It HAS to be there. Sorry :-( Dan

Does it have to be there because thats where it was when I originally installed Exchange, or does it have to be there anytime you install Exchange? Is that the only group that I have to leave there?

Thanks,
Chris

Yes those are the only groups that can't be moved.

They have to be there anytime any kind of Exchange setup is ran. We only look in the Users OU. I know it sucks but the developers don't look to be changing it anytime soon. Dan
