I am running exchange 5.5 on window2k server. When some of my clients do a search for there contacts on MS outlook2k there contacts that are being search for dont appear. I have to go to the exchange server 5.5 and restart the Mail services in order for the contacts to reappear when a search is done again on Ms outlook. This is headache. Can some help me out.

Thank you,
;-)

there is about 7 or 8 service running under exchange 5.5, which one did you restarted or do you mean all of them ?

first thanks for responding quickly and I should have been more specific. But to you answer your question I restarted all the service for the Exchange 5.5. Other than the services is there anything else that might be causing this to occur. Again thanks for any help :)

Do you have the latest service packs for both 2K and Exchange? Even if you do you might want to try re-applying (backup first of course)since some other install (additional options from Exchange CD etc.) might have overwritten something.

you mentioned the contact of a user disappeared, does this mean ALL users or just this one or a few users ? do you mean it just not there ???

can you create a new folder at that user's outlook view as a contact item (right click outlook today, click on NEW FOLDER... create a contact item then put a few dummy entries on there and do a search, does this make it disappear ??

contact usually go with each user's mail box, have you tried to see if your contact stays as you start/stop the services ? another word try to see if you can make somebody else's contact disappear

Sorry I couldnt respond as fast, but thanks for your quick respnce once again. Well the contact disappears only when a search is done on the contacts. It only happens to some users not all.

Thanks ;-)

on those peple whose contact disappear, have you try to see if a manually created contact act the same way ?

ie, create a new folder of contact item, called it dummy1, add a few dummy contact in there, and do a search, does it make that contact disappear ?

is there a way you can recrate the user ? ie. back up all his/her data to a PST or a few PST files, then delete the mailbox and recreate it, something may be corrupted, that s my guess if from your description, not a pretty way to solve the issue, but may work

if you have this issue frequently you may want to run by microsoft support to have them help you run diagonistic on your exchange database to avoid further data lost

hope this help

I would like to thank for the great sollutions. But I rather wait to see if it happens again. Since I have restarted the services it has not happen since. I greatly apprecaite your help.
