My exchange 2003 server died. I have a new exchange 2003 installation working properly, new mail is coming in and going out. I can get to the exchange directory on the old servers hard drive. I want the messages that have not yet been delivered to be dispersed to users. How can I get these off of the old server and on the the new one?

Leo

You cannot just copy them over or so.
You need at least a backup of the store.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all.

Potentially you might have .EML files queued up on the SMTP queue. Try copying these over to the drop directory on the new server.

I tried copying the .eml files over. How can I backup the store when exchange is not working on that HDD?

Leo

Grab the EDB and STM files, get a copy of Aelita Recovery Manager, suck the emails out and push them into the new store. Or Put them into an RSG and try to get them out.

Could you explain the RSG a little bit. I am kind of new to restoring things in Exchange.

PS:
How can I backup the store when exchange is not working on that HDD?
That is something you needed to think about BEFORE disaster strikes of course!
I wonder why a backup is always on some to-do list at the very bottom... ;-)

How do i set up storage groups in exchange 2003 and why do i need to do so?

1. Don't tag questions on to the end of other people's threads as it is confusing.
2. Your question shows that you are barely a beginner in Exchange Server. Google is your friend.
