I have a Windows Server 2003 running Exchange Server 2003. This is our only server so it also serves as the Domain Controller, local DNS, DHCP, IIS, servers and etc.

Other software we have installed is Trend Micro ScanMail for Exchange 6.2 and GFI mail essentials 11.

For over a year the server worked fine with very few problems, but about a month and a half ago we noticed we were no longer receiving or sending mail. (server is getting the messages it just stops delivering them) I restarted the server and everything went back to normal for several days. When it happened again I looked through the logs and followed the suggestions in the errors reported; but the server continues to fail to this day. It can happen as fast as 12 hours after restart or work flawlessly for 5 days or more. Every time this happens the server begins to repeatedly post the following errors:

-------
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=948). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not responding:
CAPROCKHPMAIN.caprockhp.local
-------
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=948). DSAccess failed to obtain an IP address for DS server CAPROCKHPMAIN.caprockhp.local, error 11001. This host will not be used as a DS server by DSAccess.
-------
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=948). Error 0x8007000e occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain caprockhp.local
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.caprockhp.local
For information about correcting this problem, type in the command line:
hh tcpip.chm::/sag_DNS_tro_dcLocator_messageA.htm
-------
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=948). Topology Discovery failed, error 0xffffffff.
-------

Thank you for your time, and let me know if there is any other information needed,

Next time this happens restart (or just simply stop) the trendmicro scanmail services. We use an older version of that software on our Exchange 5.5 servers and every now and again is will break and Exchange stops sending msgs. Just try it as a troublshooting step. If it works you know where the problem is, if it doesn't work, you know where the problem isn't. Good luck

Instead or restarting the server, you could restart the exchange services, see if that helps.

I have not tried stopping scanmail, so I will next time I have the problem.

For some reason restarting all of the exchange services does not correct the problem. I have tried several times to no avail.

Thank you both for your sugestions and your time,

ST
