We have a exchange server 2003 SP2 installed on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 box. The email system is working fine except when we send email to one domain (abc.com) the email is not delievered and it returned with a error code of 550 relay not permitted. When the NDR is produced it from our email system not the remote host.
The following event ID is posted:
Event ID 7004 -
This ia an SMTP protocol error log for virtural server ID 1, connection # 1875. The remote host 66.180.96.56 responded to the SMTP command "rcpt" with 550 relay not permitted. The Full command sent was 'RCPT TO: <you@yourdomain.com>" Tjhis will probably cause the connection to fail.
I have tried the following:
1. Ran DNS reports and all records are perfect since we Are not having problems like this with any other domain.
2. Ran message traces and yielded nothing except I see the mail queued for remote delivery but the NDR is produced after the mail server attempts to contact the remote host.
3. Checked to make sure we were not acting as a open relay and we are currently not listed on any services websites or listings.
4. I am using a internet mail connector also and we have been for 4 months with no problems until now. We use the internet mail connector becuase we use a smart host for mail delvery. when we contact the mailhost they do not see the email hit there network. Which would make one think that the problem is on our end but when I look at the SMTP logs the problems looks like at the remote hosts?
5. I tried to telnet into our Smart hosts email system and I was able to send a email to aol.com but I was not able to send a email to the remote host..the error mcode was 501 bad syntex address which I typed the address correctly.
Please advise....
