We are running Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 server in a Windows 2000 Active directory. I do not have Active Directory on the Exchange 2003 server. Things worked fine when I first did the install. Now when I create a user on the Email server with the MMC active directory snapin it seems to create OK. It ask me if I want to create the mail box and I do. When I do properties on the new user I created it does not have an email address, SMTP or X.400. I give it the SMTP and X.400 address but I still cannot log into the user either with OWA or creat a profile in Outlook.

Exchange 2003 can use Windows 2000 SP3 or later active directory. In that you can mail-enable the user through the GUI, I assume that wherever you installed the exchange 2000 admin tools, they are working correctly.

It's the funtion of the Recipient Update Service, or RUS, to process the recipient policies and stamp the users. The RUS stamps other attributes as well. If the RUS is not funtioning, simply adding the addresses manually is not enough. This becomes clear when you read the requirements for disabling the RUS:

My guess is that the RUS is not stamping. You need to troubleshoot the RUS.
