Hi,

Using BE 9.1 to successfully backup all data on a single server. Can run a successfull separate job to backup the information store.

However, when backing up all the mailboxes, it fails on every individual message with the error: "0xa0008488 - Access is denied"

Any ideas what permisssions I should apply and where? The BE backup job is using DOMAIN\administrator as the logon a/c.

Cheers guys.

Really huh? It didn't used to be that way in 5.5 - but this is my first real foray in 2k3 exchange... so I'll take your word for it..

But it does answer a lot of questions tho'.

Thanks everyone.. I'll be working on this today..

Just one of the many things that changed between 5.5 and 2003.

-------------------------------

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

The plot thickens...
Ok so - i'm working on getting permissions to all the accounts that need it - including my own, as I had not been made an admin within Exchange ...

However.. it seems that the guy who set up the exchange server - set only himself as Full Admin at the top of the tree.. and not a group (that would have been smarter)..

So - his account is now gone - as it must have been deleted before I came here - and so how to i add someone as Full Admin - now that nobody is full admin?

Alshrim,
You have to be logged in as a full admin to delegate that rights with system manager. I am having this same problem after upgrading from Exchange 2000 to 2003 with my backups. Veritas tech support is not sure what is wrong and waiting for conference call with Microsoft to figure this out.

Ya.. I fear that the people who have worked here during the interim when there hasn't been any windows Domain admin deleted the only two accounts that had Full Admin rights...

I see SID entries there - but no accounts in exchange have Full ADmin rights!

Anyone have a suggestion on how i can get around this wee-little problem? :p
Like i said - things here are a bit of a mess..

Take a look at Exchange 2000\2003 static port mappings
(Microsoft KB270836)
Related resource is: Windows 2000 Connectivity through Firewalls KB280132

I have figured out that some of the port mappings I setup in Exchange 2000 are now not usable with Exchange 2003. Use RCPDUMP.EXE from recource kit to dump the RPC ports on the exchange server and check them. I had two setup to the same port.

I am finally able to backup.
