THanks for the info marcs but how I have been led to believe that if smtp and nntp are not installed on the machine you are trying to install exchange on then it just kicks up with an error - how do you get round that?
'let to believe' ?
If you don't want SMTP, then you just don't add it, same for NNTP. The services may get installed , but you can disable them in System Manager.
AD, no choice, you will need that, you cannot create users directly in Exchange 2000.
I'm talking about installing exchange 2000 with no IIS services installed on the win2k server - Having just tried it I get an error giving me various reasons why I can't install exchange 2000, one being no SMTP, one being no NNTP, one being no AD and one being no Domain.
I was just wondering whether it was possible to just install the shell to have a look at. I don't care whether it works or not really. but i dont want IIS or AD installed on the server.
OK! Re: The AD Thing message received and understood. But how about installing it without having IIS installed on the win2k server first? possibilities there?
Oh, I see.
I must say it is not a smart move to install such a heavy-impact application on a live server, just 'to look at it'.
Take any old PC and slap 2000 server on it, install exchange and look there.
No hassle, no errors, no problems and no conflicts.
