Does anyone have knowledge on information on putting Exchange 2000 on a member server. I really do not want the exchange server to be a domain controller.

Any pointers would be appreciated to the right technet articles.

Actually, Microsoft recommends Exchange 2000 to be on a member server. In fact that is how I have it in my domain.

Basically:

Run dcdiag and netdiag (on Exchange disk) to verify network.

Run forestprep in Empty Root, wait for replication, have Exchange Admin. account established for permissions to be assigned.

Run domainprep in Child Domain, wait for replication, after replication, log-in as user account established to be Exchange admin.

Install Exchange 2000.

I found this quite handy when installing Exchange.

Hope this helps

I actually have my exchange 2000 on a domain controller, can i make this a member server without messing around with exchange? Can i just run dcpromo and demote the server or do i have to amend the exchange installation?

Exactly, just do as /Bart indicates and you should be fine. And as /Bart indicates: think about it before you do it because of the reboot.
