Exchange 2000 front end/back end server

Hi,

We were planning to implement exchange 2000 front/back end and i know that we cannot have any mail box associated to front end since the job of front end is just to proxy the request and send to back end. Now if i have two nic cards on front end server will that be of any help, so that i could have users mail box in it and make the server to look in to it database?
