Exchange 2000 brick level backup with ARCserve 2000

Hi folks,

The following is sort of convoluted, so will provide as many details as possible.

Previously running NT4, SP6a and Exchange 5.5, SP3 on two servers in the same domain. (Not sure if the same Exchange site, but I think so. I'm not an Exchange guru.) One server runs ARCserve 2000 AE, SP3 with the Exchange Agent. The second server also has the Exchange Agent installed. I have always backed up the IS, but also grabbed brick-level backups in case a single mailbox needs restoration.

We recently upgraded both of these servers to Win2K, SP2 and Exchange 2000. Very different!

On the local backup server, I am able to back up the IS and the brick level for boxes on that server. However, I am unable to even see, never mind backup brick level boxes on the remote server. (The ARCserve Brick Level ONLY shows boxes on that server.) The remote server also has ARCserve 2000 WG installed as a fault tolerant strategy for that machine. Doing an Exchange backup from that server presents the same problem. My work around has been to select the MBX directory under the M:\ drive that Exchange 2000 creates. It seems to work, but I get multiple errors similar to the following:

W3404 Unable to open file. (FILE=M:\<domain name>\MBX\<user name>\<folder>\<item>, EC=FILE NOT FOUND)

Does anyone know of a better way to tackle this.

Create a new account on the second server and configure the exchange agent using the new account.

Check Microsoft Q article Q298924

I came upon the solution in another thread today. See thread478-290858. Thanks speshalyst.
