Hi,

I have today created a custom recipient for an Internet Mail address. I have created them before and others work. The message when trying to send a message I get an undeliverable reply with the error - Either the message size exceeds the maximum allowed for the recipient or transport, or you have exceeded the storage limit on your mailbox.

This is strange we do not store messages on our server, so cannot exceed storage limits and the message was a few lines of simple text. So I don't believe the error.

I have tried from other mailboxes and get the same. But, our other custom recipients work fine.

Thanks,

Jane

When do you get the error and what type of error is it? Is it a Windows dialog box or is it an e-mail bounce with this info?

If it were a problem on your exchange box then you wouldn't be getting a bounce (most likely) it sounds like whatever mailbox you're sending mail to is getting your e-mails but is rejecting them because the remote mailbox is over it's size limit.

The easiest way to check this is to look at the full header of the mail. If you're using Outlook to read your mail just open up the bounce, hit View and then Options. You should see a part that says internet headers. That will show you all the servers that this mail reached before hitting you.

If it's a problem with your exchange box then that field should be totally empty because it would never have left your box and it would never have an internet head. I don't find that likely.

Whats more likely is that you'll see the mail reach the intended address and then work it's way back to you because the intended address rejected it.

If they're rejecting it, there's not much you can do aside from calling them up and telling them to clean out their box or killing the rule that wont let the mail in.

If you dont have a phone number for them you could also try sending an e-mail to the postmaster of the other address with a description of your problem and asking them to clean out the box.

Another easy way to test if it's on your box or theirs, when you send an e-mail to the internet address without using the custom recipient, do you get the same thing back? Marc Creviere
