Exch. 2k. SP3 server no longer sending and recieving mail..

My Exchange 2000 server stopped sending and recieving mail today after rebooting the system. I noticed that SMTP had been uninstalled during reboot somehow. I reinstalled SMTP and it still wasn't working, so I installed Exchange 2000 SP3. We still are not sending/recieving email.. Here is part of the latest log file:

Is mail working internally?
i.e. can internal (local) users send emails to other local users?
If that works OK, then maybe install Outlook Express on the Exch2k server and configure the SMTP server to be the IP address of your exchange server. Can you send emails to a local user email account ok?
If so this proves SMTP is working ok.
See how you go - if this portion is proved to be working then we can do some more diagnosis

there is a note to reinstall the smtp service.
follow this:

the reinstall and servicepack is not enough because the smtp service from exchange is different to only smtp from the system.

the smtpreinstall toll is on the servicepack in

I also have this problem just started yesterday.
Running 2k server and exchange 2k.
All that happens when I send mail is it sits in the virtual SMTP server queues. Starts in the waiting for submital then eventually moves to Awaiting lookup.......alas no mail; ever leaves the server.

I tried the Outlook express thing and it hangs on checking mail or sending. I get a timeout message "Would you like to wait?"
I have tried this from the server and a client on the domain, with both the network IP and from the server with both Network and loopback address'.

I am also having a right nightmare with the exchange setup. I finally got it to complete with no errors "during Install" and applied SP3 also with "No errors" but after reboot instead of many Exchange error I have One MTA stacks did not respond in a timelly fasion!!!!

This server has been set-up for sometime running no problem!

Sometimes after a reeboot the queue clears and the mail is delivered + I get a relay report.
