I have a computer running OS W95b at work that I built that is causing the user problems. When the computer is started up in the morning it works fine; however when the user prints for the first time (through a DOS based app)she gets the following error:
AN exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C1166E1E in VXD LPT(01) + 0000203A. This was called from 0028:C1166F07 in VXD LPT(01) & 00002123. It may be possible to continue normally.

Once she reboots her machine it works fine the rest of the day.

I have ask her to write down the message each time and give it to me. It is always the same error, but different memory locations.

It sounds like to me possibly a conflict with the printer driver, but I am not for sure. Do you have any possible solutions or suggestions?

Please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Have a good day!

Thanks,
Mark Bassett

This type of error message is a conflict between files Winsock.dll and Wsock32.dll in Windows 95 and something the operating system needs called Windows Sockets in conjunction with IPX/SPX.
Microsoft has acknowledged that this conflict exists and they have released a system patch. Do a Windows Update..
In some rare cases, the patch wouldn't fix the problem though.

Some things to try , if the MS VXD fix dos'nt work .

-----------------------------------------------

Press Delete ( del ) on boot up , now this part can vary depending on your version .
Go to Intergrated Peripherals & then Onboard Parallel Mode , using the arrow key .
Make a note of the existing entry .
Use the Page Down button to try the next entry .
Press Esc .
Save & Exit , Y , press Enter .
If it is still not right , repeat above , again & again .
If you find a entry that works , make sure you make a note of it .
Eventually you get back to where you started .

---------------------------------------------------

In Start, Settings, Printers, click the printer driver with the right mouse button, Details, Spool Settings, change Spool Data Format settings from RAW to EMF or vice versa.
In the Spool Settings, select Print directly to printer.
Remove temporary files in C:\TEMP and C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
