Greater I.T. Intellect,

I am havin' a problem w/ excel xp, that I was hopin' to get some help on. Client is a dell inspiron 5000 laptop, 256mb ram, 40gb hdd, o.s. windows xp pro, office xp pro, using client on LAN.

The 'recent used file list' option is set to 9 files in 'options'. However, the file menu usually just shows 4-8 files. The files listed do not correspond to the most recently used files either.

The tool bar has been customized to contain funtions that are most used. About once a week, the tool bar resets to the standard toolbar view.

Any ideas on these anomalies? I've been told that it may have to do w/ a corrupt user profile...if so, how would one resolve this problem by troubleshooting it from the profile angle?

much obliged,

Wow. Now this is the 2nd time I've heard about that MRU list in XP. The other person had problems with Word.

I don't have answers for either of you, but maybe if I cross-post the two, you'll end up with something and not be duplicating efforts.

Keep in mind, this is NOT about the missing toolbars in Excel. I would say, yes. That sounds like a corrupt user profile.

Here's the link to the other forum; I hope these forum owners don't mind!

Thanks for you response! I love when the i.t. community comes together. That's why I got out of engineering...less egos here.

I was goin' to run the detect/repair util. from the excel help menu this afternoon. But after readin' the cross post, my hopes of this resolvin' the issue have lessened. Though I doubt this problem is office application specific (i.e. repair util may work on excel but not on word), think I'll give it a try. The client does not have offxp sp2 on it either, so after the repair, I'll install this service pack.

If all else fails, looks like I'll uninstall the entire office xp suite, reboot and reinstall. However, if this is a reg. issue, uninstallation may not avail resolution.

Thanks for your response, I welcome any more input/help.
