Hi everyone.

I have a problem creating an xy scatter chart in excel.

I have a series of XY data that I want to plot on a chart. Which does not present a problem, however each point has a unique name. I want to be able to hold the pointer over a single point and the correct name to be displayed in the pop up data label box OR label each point on the chart with each name.

Anyone know how I do this? I can plot the points OK but the data point names are always the same. :(

Thanks in advance

Stella

Stella,
If you plotted your data with each point being in its own series (rather than all of them being in the same series), you could label each with the series name. This technique requires Excel 2002 or 2003; attaching the series name to the data points won't work in Excel 97 or 2000.

To set the series name:
1) Right-click a data point, then choose Source data from the resulting pop-up
2) Go to the Series tab, and enter the desired name in the Name field

To display the series name on your chart:
1) Right-click a data point, then choose Format Data Series from the resulting pop-up
2) Go to the Data labels tab, and check the box for Series name
