Hey all. I have an excel document with about 1,000 entries in the first column. Some are typed in all capital letters, some are lowercase. Does anyone know of anyway to autoformat all of these entries so it capitalizes the first letter of each name and changes the rest to lowercase?
Any help would be appreciated because I'd rather not have to re-type 1,000 names!! Thanks

Create a new column
=Proper(a1) in top cell
fill down by double clicking on the fill handle in the lower right of the cell

Thanks! That works if I am just typing =PROPER("jAcK"), but how could I get it to autoformat all of the cells? If I do double click to get the rest autofiled it just wipes out the already existing name and replaces it with NAME? If I try to paste the names in the spots it over-writes the formula. Thanks for the help thus far

zbtmage,
straybullet gave an excellent solution which I wasn't aware of, but it also got me digging and I found this->

This allows you to select cells and make the change with a push of a button. You don't need to add another column.

I'm sure you have figured this out by now, but create a new column with UPPER(), and another with PROPER().

Thanks all, it was much appreciated. All set now.. and I will save those links for future reference
