Does anyone know why when I turn off the start up prompt about updating automatic links (Edit>Links...>Startup Prompt>Don't display the alert and update the links) I still get prompted? What's going on?

Am I misunderstanding "Don't display the alert" ? Thanks!

Are you on a network? If that's the case, when you logoff and logon, your settings are probably reverting due to settings in your logon script. Have you checked to see if that is the case?

I am on a network, but am not logging on and off. I've been changing the setting and closing the file, coming back to it a few minutes later.

The files are stored on a server/networked drive. But, so is another worksheet where I've set the same setting and do not get the 'update' message. Doesn't make sense to me...

I was able to duplicate the behavior in question. When the source file is closed, you will receive the prompt. When the source file is open, you will not receive the prompt.

Hope this helps.

interesting... That gives me something to think about, thanks. I still don't have it narrowed down though. I get the prompt whether source is opened or closed. Strange. Thanks for the help though!
