Hi everyone,

I have a PC that takes a long time to open a spreadsheet. This Pc is running XP and Office 2k. 1.6Ghz 512Mb, I try to open the same sheet on a different PC and It opened right away(Small Processor 350Mhz).
I disable the antivirus but still pretty slow.
Does anyone have any idea what could it be. What what should I check?

Thanks
Jorge

You may want to try something as simple as saving the file using another name. Maybe your file is bieng stored on a locaiton on the disk that is corrupted. Of course this assumes you are opening the file from the hard drive of each system.

good luck.

Aloha,

I saved the file on the server and Open it up woth other Pc and It opens pretty fast, But when I do it from the The PC in question it takes 26 seconds to open and about 15 second to close. I reinstall Office 2K but still doing the same thing.

How is your network connection for that workstation. What happens if you try to open another spreadsheet in the same directory as the one that is slow?

Actually The Application is on his Hard drive I just copy the Spreadsheet to the server so I can open it up in other PC's and even the other PCs are opened it from the server their are faster than the one that opened it from it's own HD. This PC is a HP Pavilio 513x, I was wonder is there is some kind of setting that is making this PC slow when open Excel documents. the spreadsheet is 8Mb with several worksheet. But other PCs can opened this Spreadsheet through the network faster than this PC from it's own HD.
I Thought it was Office but He can open Access application fast as well as Word Document.. so I am clueless....!

Well, it's down to one of 3 things - the file itself, your PC, or the server (I'm including the network connections with the server). I doubt seriously that it's the spreadsheet, unless it is using some strange fonts and/or analysis packs that doesn't reside on your machine. So, let's eliminate your machine - copy the spreadsheet to YOUR hard disk. If it opens fast, it's the server and/or your PC's network connection. If it still opens slow, sure that your version of Excel matches the originating machine's version in all aspects - including any macros, analysis packs, and fonts.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
