Office 97. Excel 97. Win98. When I double click on an excel file to open it, the file opens fine but then a dialogue box comes up saying that <filename>.xls is already open and reopening it will cause any changes to be discarded. Do I want to reopen it? (This is because there are cells in the sheet that are dependant on the system date so it is updated immediately upon opening.) But why is the sheet wanting to open twice? This also acts the same if I use a shortcut to the sheet. It is fine if I start excel and then open the sheet.

Have a look in Windows>Unhide

see if it is listed in there...

Just a thought . . .

do you have your Windows Explorer set up to open files on one click instead of two? I remember that being a major change with Win98 which I didn't like so I never used it because I was having th esame problem you are having right now.

Peace! [peace]
