An excel file in a shared folder on our Novell network has become inaccessible/ damaged. We are all using Win 95 PC's . when anyone tries to rename the file the error " there has been a sharing violation . The source or destinaytion file may be in use. " comes up on screen. We have an updated version of this file and want to delete the old one . None of the users appears to have the file open , any ideas please ?

Ask your network guys to reset the network. That should drop all connections. Otherwise, you'll have to see if they have a network backup PRIOR to its corruption.

Some networks keep the user *connection* until the user reboots too. If everyone is out of the file, and everyone has rebooted their PC since they got out of it, and you STILL can't access it, it's either a network problem or the file is corrupt. Anne Troy
