Hi,

I have a problem that occurs very often (at home running Office XP and at work running Office 2000)
Most of my spreadsheets contain code, and when i decide to record a macro excel pops a msg box unable to record??

Is there anything i'm overlooking here??

With regards

Mike

I don't think you can use the macro recorder if you have code running, so that might be something to check.

Other than that - exactly how are you calling the macro recorder?

Hi VBAjedi,

In most cases i have some code running when workbook opens, but all things that i should do have been performed.

I use the Alt+F8 keys to call on the macro recorder

FWIW other times the recorder may not work are :-

1. If the cursor is in the formula bar (waiting Enter or escape).
2. If a text box or control has focus (had mouse click) rather than a worksheet cell being active (selected).

Both items listed above are ok, a cell has focus

Running out of ideas, but. . . perhaps some code is disabling/reassigning that hotkey combination. Have you tried starting the recorder from the Excel menu? (Tools -> Macro -> Record New Macro)

Also, if you enable the Visual Basic toolbar (View -> Toolbars -> Visual Basic), you can see visually when the Macro Recorder is not available (the round Record button will be greyed out). "Catching it in the act" might give you some clue as to what is causing it to happen.

Yes , i did trie that , i shows the msgbox, then i ignored it and recorded anyway, when i stop recording excel hangs

i find it strange, don't have a clou why this happens

maybe an office glitch

thnx for your help,

Mike

Hi Mikeb1970,

Could you have a memory problem? I am suffering from them at the moment (having just added memory!) and Excel seems to be more affected than anything else; quite often nothing happens when I press Alt-F8 and, although I can sometimes go through the menus I do end up with Excel hanging. I haven't had the 'cannot record' message but the other symptome sound familiar.

Enjoy,
Tony
