Excel "Too Many Different Shell Formats"

Well the error message says it all.
Running under NT4sp6, Excel 2000SR1, trying to open a file on a W2000 server.

I hope there is something better than last file back up to restore!
 
You mean "Cell formats"!
I would try opening with OpenOffice - and let us know if it works.

A quick google search finds lots of references:

This article seemed to describe the issue in some depth, but I have no knowledge of the solution and am not recommending the product.

This link suggests some other ways of opening your file but based on what others in this forum have posted I would try OpenOffice first.

OpenOffice is out of question in my work so they are using that back up.
