I received an excel spreadsheet by e-mail that has something on it that i have never seen before. I would like to use it on some of my own spreadsheets but don't know what it is called so that I can teach myself.

Its an extra grey space between the column headings (A,B,C... etc) and the formula toolbar. It has 2 small buttons at the left hand side marked '1' and '2' - these buttons show and hide a column in the sheet (there is also a '+' or '-' sign above the relevant column which can also be clicked on to show / hide it)

Can someone tell me what this is called ?

Thanks,

Jock

I've had a look at 'subtotals' and it is very close to what I was asking about. The worksheet in question however has similar buttons to 'subtotals' but shows / hides a column (not rows) and doesn't appear to total anything in the process (it's a text column that it hides).
It's like the buttons are for different views - I've had a look at custom views but it doesn't add any selection buttons above the coumn headers.
Any more suggestions ???
