Hi all,
I have an Excel worksheet specifically formatted to fit width-wise in landscape orientation - length-wise, it can be anywhere from one to many pages. Right now, I have only enough info to fill one page.
In page break preview mode, Excel shows me one page. But in print preview it shows two pages - one with all of the worksheet contents, and one empty page. Of course, when I print there's also an empty page.
How can I avoid the blank page? I think the blank page extends from the right (rather than from the bottom) of the first page, since when I add more rows to make a REAL second page, that gives me four pages, two of which are blank.
I appreciate your help!

Reduce the width of a few columns and your problem may go away........

Ah yes - I forgot to mention a rather pertinent piece of information. The worksheet uses 8 columns - A:H. The rest of the columns are hidden, and column I contains some administrative information (manipulated through VBA) that I don't want casual users to see. So column I is NOT empty, but it IS hidden, so Excel should not be trying to print it. The page break preview part of Excel understands this, but the print part doesn't....

JVF - Yes, it just might - but in print preview mode, I look at the margins, and the cells clearly fit inside the margins (the cells have a grey background, so it's really clear where they end). Yes, maybe I have to oblige Excel and make my information smaller - but I hate to sacrifice printing real estate on my page for Excel's idiosyncrasy...

Go to File-Print area-Clear Print area.

Go to File-Page setup, choose Print to:

Put a 1 in the page wide, and delete anything in the tall.

If this doesn't work, methinks you may have a printer driver issue, especially if page break preview does not match print preview.

Bleh! Excel's non-repeatability strikes again. Just one page in print preview now (it's been an off-and-on problem, unfortunately). I do know that there was no print area set up; in "scaling" the adjust-to rather than the fit-to button is selected (with 100% as the adjust-to setting). When the problem resurfaces, I'll see what choosing the fit-to mode does. But the problem isn't so much with me (I'll just print pages selectively if I have to), it's with the users of my application, who don't want to (and shouldn't have to) go through the trouble of adjusting print settings.
Thanks for all your help
Rob

Real estate IS the issue.

For what it's worth, when the print parameters are 'close to the edge', XL may display one thing and print another.

Since you are building an app for various users (and I assume various printers) I suggest building more cushion into your print parameters. I don't like giving up "territory" either, but sometimes living close to the edge isn't worth it.

I'm not certain this will resolve your problem, but give it a try and let me know if this problem continues.....
