excel freeze up

I having problems with excel it is freezing up. when cut and paste from different spreadsheet in the same file. I did format and reload the system and still. could anyone tell me some tips on the registry. seems to be a common thing that I am not aware of.
please help

How much ram is in the PC and what version of operating system and Excel?
What is your processor make and speed?

What freezes up? The entire computer or just the office program?

More info please... The more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to know!
