Excel formulas and PC Performance

I have a SS with over 32,000 rows and my PC is locking up when trying to sort with vlookups in 2 of the columns.

Is there something I can do to boost performance while working with these larger files?
Pentium 866 with SCSI drives, 512 SDRAM, Win2K, Office XP.

sorry but no, no and no - 32000 lookup formulae....what do you expect ??
2 suggestions

1: Value all formulae - keep a copy of the formula somewhere and paste back in as necessary
2: Use Access. My personal view is that spreadsheets just do not function well with > 15000 lines of data - mainly because vlookups tend to be used to interrogate that data.

I was afraid that would be the answer. I wanted to sort the data to verify that my formulas worked as planned, then copy/paste values only into the columns...I guess I'll have to do that before sorting.

Maybe I should suggest to my boss that I get a new PC!

This is also an incentive for me to take that Access class Ive been wanting to take!

To be honest - not much to do with the PC (unless yours is real old) - vlookup formulae are pretty memory hungry and 32000 in 2 columns will wipe out virtually any "standard" computer for a fair amount of time.
