Excel File with "Read Only" error message

Hi guys.

Problem is we have an Excel file.....tried to open in Office 2k and Office XP...2k gives a "read-only" message (it has no read only option set) and XP gives a "File Corrupt" message. I have tried to use the Open and Repair feature of XP, but without any luck, everytime It simply tells me "Unable to read file".

Anybody else got any ideas at all....this is a rather important document.

I have opened in a text editor/Quick View, and the data and forumlae are there but obviously all the formulae are encrypted or jibberish in the text viewer.

Please help ;o)

Don't save anything valuable to floppy, save to hard drive, then send to floppy. Trust Me.

Thanks ever so much for your insightful tip....now the file opens perfectly!

It isn't my file, not even for my company, I'm sorting it for a work collegue of mine. As for saving to hard drive, I have said all this to the relevant person, however it doesn't help me in this situation does it

I wonder why some people bother!

Just to put a few things straight....

The Floppyitself is not corrupted....the Excel file is.

There are other files on the floppy which work fine.

I have tried everything it seems now to restore the data....anyone else have any ideas?
