We have an employee trying to access a excel sheet that is approx 8 megs. Our HR director can open it with some effort from her PC, but our council cannot. I can't either, my PC is about the same - W2k, 128 megs ram, celeron 700 Dell PCs. I thought, well our office manager has a pretty beefy PC - 1.4ghz pentium 4 w/512megs RAM, more RAM than the HR director with 256 but less processor - she has 2.0ghz. Won't open on her PC either!!!

They're complaining it's a PC problem. How can it be? Last time I knew you didn't need state of the art technology to open an excel file that's only 8 megs size. Any suggestions?

How is the file being moved about? Zip Disk, perhaps?

Just wondering if the file is being saved directly to Zip Disk. Not the best way. Get the file opened, perhaps on Excel XP (better file recovery), save it to hard drive.

If it must be moved around by ZipDisk/Floppy, save to hard drive first, then send to the disk/floppy.

When they try to open it, does it open excel and not open the document, or does nothing come up at all?

The program will open and it will say at the bottom openning sheet.xls, but the status bar will not show anyhting, it will just sit there. The guy has said if he lets it sit for 15 minutes it will come up. Also, on my office manager's PC the bar did show up and move half way over but nothing after that.

It is being moved around in an email, not a zip dsk or any other medium.

A problem I have had before is that some documents wont open if you directly click on them, and what I do is open the program they use first, i.e. excel, word, etc. then after the program is open, I double click the document itself, then it opens fine.
