Excel - Count Characters In Cell?

Hi All,

I'm looking for a function that will count the total number of characters within a cell, ie: C4 contains ABCDE therefore the function will show the result of 5. Etc.

Is this possible, please? Am I just being thick and missing something? (Feel free to say - I'm sure I've heard worse )

This is using Excel 2000, btw.

Just use the LEN function
=LEN(A1)
will return the number of characters in cell A1

use the len command
cell a1: abcde
cell b1: =len(a1)
result should be 5
