Hi

I am naming my Excel SHEETS with dates

i.e.
Sheet 1 is called '1 dec'
Sheet 2 is called '2 dec'

I would like this (Sheetname) DATE to be copied into a CELL (formatted for date) in the same Sheet.

Can this be done?

Hi,

Yes, it can be done, but it is almost NEVER a good idea to chop up perfectly good data, into different locations. I would strongly advise against this workbook design. If you describe how you intend to use this workbook, there may be a much better way to structure your data and take advantage of the plethora of data analysis and reporting tools that are availabe in Excel. Butchering your data, renders these features virtually useless.

First understand how Excel handles Date/Time values. Entering a date requires year, month and day in a format the Excel will recognize.

Next, the CELL function can return the filename and SHEET NAME. You can use the FIND function to locate the position of the right bracket and the RIGHT & LEN functions to return the sheet name.

But then, you'll need to parse the day and month into the DATE function, along with the year from the TODAY() function to get the current year, in order to return a REAL DATE.
