Excel converts Mapped drive to UNC - How to stop?

I have a workbook that is linked to other workbooks on my network. However, recently, when I open the workbook and select link to link it to other workbooks (after I make changes), it converts my mapped link drive (f:\ mapped to \\servername\sharname\worddoc.xls) to a UNC path. The UNC path then doesn't update my workbooks that I have made changes to. Can someone please advise?

Hi there,

I've just come across a similar problem. Spreadsheets created on Win95 and then opened on a w2k Citrix server get changed in a similar way.

Did you have any luck with an explanation?
