Excel closes when I open my DVD-ROM drive.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem. Whenever I try to open my DVD ROM drive and I have excel97 open, Excel closes. I am running Win98 and DVD drive is a hitachi. This problem has occured since I have had the computer which is an IBM aptiva. Also I have a cd writer and the problem does not occur when I open that.

Is this a problem with Excel or do you think something else is causing a problem.?

I'm curious if Excel really shuts down.

Next time you do this, hit ctrl-alt-del to see if Excel is still in the task list.

I just tried it again and yes Excel really does shut down. It is not in the task list. Sometimes it shuts and causes an Illegal operation and I lose whatever I am working on if I don't remember I have this annoying problem. If you can help me fix this, your help will be greatly appreciated.
