I am probably being very silly and there is a simple solution, but I have a graph which depicts three data columns for each month. Howe do I represent the trend from month to month for each of the data colums as a line on the same graph and moreover can I add a line which depicts the overall average across the whole of the 12 months depicted in this graph?

Thanks in advance,

Justin

Right click on the data series and choose add trend line

For the overall do a calculation from the data and use that for a series

Keith,

Thanks for that simple in the end but I just couldn't find it! One thing this allows me to pick various trend lines, but how do I have one that tracks the actual bar graph month on month rather than looking back or forward over a certain number of "period" units? Also what if I wanted to insert a constant horizontal line which depicts the average over say a twelve month period?

Oh and I have awarded a star since you have solved my initial query.

Thanks in advance,

Justin

Not sure exactly what you want but if you want to put a target line then you can either:

Put a new row of numbers into your data (if you have 10 data points and the target 80 put 80 in 10 cells) then set a data series to that

or

Draw a line using the drawing tool bar (providing the range is going to be at the same general level)

The first question I'm not sure what is required but if you want a bar and a line showing the same points set another series using the same data and right click on chart, choose chart type, choose custom tab and choose Line - Column
