Hi all - this should be simple, but in fact it's driving me nuts!

I have several similar charts in Excel. The title of the 2nd 'Y' axis is the same in each chart. In all except one chart, the label is displayed n one continuous line of text. On the other chart however, the text goes on to the second line, so it appears as:

% of cases on due
date

Excel will not allow me to re-size the box containing the label in order to make it display on one line. Nor will it allow me to copy and paste the label from one of my other charts. I have tried deleting and recreating the label, all to no avail.

Does anyone know what I need to do to make my label display on one line only?

Hi,

Have you tried changing the font of this title?

ALSO in the ChartArea, right-click and select the Font tab. Excel checks the Auto Scale checkbox by default. Having this checked will change the fonts for the various text objects within the chart under certain conditions. So if you want to control the font yourself, then uncheck this box.

Hi Skip and thanks for your post.

Changing the font doesn't seem to solve the problem, although I confess I haven't tried all the fonts on offer.

I can reduce the size of the font which works, however, the labels on my other charts are identical (6 pt. ariel bold) and the text appears all on one line. Removing the emboldening also works (but then it still looks different).

Unfortunately, your tip for disabling the autoscale option was also unsuccessful. this removed all the formatting on the chart and returned all the text to the default settings, but when I reapplied my formatting the problem recurred!

I think maybe this is one of Excel's little idiosyncracies which exist to keep all of us users bright and interested in life...

Thanks again,

Chris

Here's a less than desirable "solution" to make ALL the axes titles uniform.

Put a line feed in EVERY title in the same place...
