How can I change the number format to default to 0 decimal, comma separated thousands format. My system now uses 2 decimal with no commas between thousands, and I have to change it when entering numbers.

Thank you.

Try Format Style then Modify. Using the Style command will also save on file size.

I don't know how to save this setting as the default for XL, maybe someone else on this forum will.

Hope this helps.

Create a new workbook.
Select all cells (gray square topleft corner).
Right click, choose cell properties.
Format all cells with Number format, decimal seperator comma, 0 decimals.
Click any cell to clear selection.

Now, save this workbook as Book.xlt (i.e. as template) in your XLStart folder. The name "Book" must be used for UK version, if you use another language you may have to use another name (will show as Name1 etc when you create a new workbook). All new workbooks that you create will be based on this "special" template, unless you choose another template to base your new workbook on.

Cheers,

Ilses

Thanks, guys,

Very useful tips, especially the "template" setting.

Thanks! ...and a serving of STARS.
