In Excel 2000, I can achieve the effect like this:
-- Open the 'target' worksheet, in which I want to view the data
-- Position the cursor in cell A1
-- Choose the Insert .. Object menu option
-- Click on the [Create from File] tab
-- Browse to the source worksheet
-- Tick the Link to file check box, and click OK
A 'picture' of the source sheet then appears in the target sheet. Changes to the source data appear in the target sheet instantly.
Note:
-- If the source sheet has a very large number of cells in use, you may see a memory error message.
-- If you change the location of the source sheet, you will break the link.
-- I think this only works if the source workbook contains a single sheet.
If you only have specific cells within the sheet that will be changed though, then it could be less momory intensive to simply link the cells, ie tile the files on your screen, click into a cell to be linked, type = and then click on the corresponding cell in the other file and hit Enter.
