I have been able to open a file with the extensions .xls.zip.
However, as of this morning, when I go to open this Outlook Attachement, I'm directed to a windows Explorer page (System32 foler).

Ken, I haven't any other zip files as attachments. However, I will try to see if I can find/open .zip files in my HD.
Thank you both for your replies. The only differnce from yesterday and today is that I moved my computer from one cubical to the next one over. And I KNOW that didn't do it; although the end user swears that because I moved his computer he's unable to open these attachments. :+/
I never noticed it before, but Attachments that have been ziped carry the file extension of the original program?
Example: file.xls.zip
Well, I guess so cause it's worked up until now......when I moved that bloody computer.
When you double click the attachment, I would expect it to launch Winzip such that you can extract the Excel file contained within the attachment.
What happens if you save the attachment down to your hard drive and then double click it?
What happens if you launch Winzip and open the attachment from within there?
Regards
Ken............

are you sure it's really a zip file and not a XLS file that someone has renamed so that it wouldn't get blocked as an attachment? Outlook and some other mail programs sometimes have protection to try and protect users from themselves where it won't allow certain extensions, and have no way to disable this "Feature". so a lot of times when people send a XLS they rename it as file.xls.zip and include instructions to save it without the .zip extension.. in this case maybe the person forgot to include the instructions. although this doesn't sound like the case since the user claims they were able to open the file before..9 times out of 10 it turns out to be an EBCAK Error... where the user changed something from the time you moved the computer.. obviously just moving the computer wouldn't cause an error like this..
Sounds promising actually. Save it down to the hard drive, delete the .zip at the end and then try opening.

Ken, whether I open the attachment of I try to save the attachment I get an Windows Explorer window that opens to the Sys32 folder.
I've not tried to open winzip, then attempt to open the Outlook attachment. I will do that now.
I did notice that Winzip has never been installed onto this user's workstation. However, may I point out that this user, for the past 16 months, has been able to open this specific attachement on a daily basis.
I have looked back at his inbox and see that every attachment since the begining of time has been in the format of: file.xls.zip.
Infinity, I will look and see if this is the case. The explanation seems plausable so I will investigate. I will also attempt to save the file without the extention.
once again, THANK YOU all for trying to help me out.
when I try to save the attachment to any folder on the local drive I get the following:
"Outlook cannot save the URL to a file. Path does not exist. Make sure the path is correct."
The default path to save documents is My Documents for that particular user.
