I work on a help desk and a user sent me an excel worksheet that has a column for dating. It will not allow me to enter a date earlier than 1/1/99. I have tried to switch the dating formats around, taken all security off of the sheet, and even copied and pasted all info into a new workbook. I am at a loss. The error tells me: The value you entered is not valid. A user has restricted values that can be entered into this cell.

Anyone got a clue???

Have you had a look at "Conditional Formatting" ?
...Format ...Conditional Formatting (from the menu)

When you check this out, it could be that there were restrictions placed here.

Hope this helps. Please advise.

I'm using Excel2000 - I don't know what version you are using, but it should be the same/similar...

Check the Data - Validation menu item. This should have the value you need to change/delete. If you set the dropdown box there to "none" (i.e - no validation) it should work for you.

Jason,

Thanks for correcting me. I was "too quick" to react. I was obviously meaning to refer to "Data Validation".

THANKS !!! ...and a STAR.
