Excel 2k Partial Cell Text Lock?

Hi All,

I don't imagine it's actually possible to do this, but...

If you have some text in cell A1, say "name" and you wish this text to be locked / unchangeable by a user, but you also require the user to input data after this word in the same cell; can this be done?

Probably a stupid question, but I hear so many every day I thought I'd throw out one of my own for a change

not in the same cell but you could have an unlocked cell next to it and use the worksheet change event to add the new text to the locked text when it has been entered into the adjacent cell.....

Cheers Geoff. So it sounds like using the unlocked cell again after initial input (for correction of spelling mistakes, etc) would overwrite the locked cell data? Is that right?

you could make it happen like that - yes - using a protection argument of userinterfaceonly = true - this sets the protection so that to the user, the sheet is locked but you can run code on the sheet without having to protect / unprotect all the time.... If you are interested in a code based solution, please post in the VBA forum
